In fact, it went on to collect a whopping Rs 25.48 crore on Day 4 on the domestic front. That’s not all. The film has also managed to tap into non- Hindi markets and emerge victorious. Yes, the film managed to attain the numero uno position at the Chennai city box office. The last time Aamir Khan managed this feat was with 3 Idiots. It has beat Kaththi Sandai, one of the Tamil releases by a huge margin. With just its Hindi version, the film has managed to rake in Rs 3.27 crore from Tamil Nadu. It’s performing splendidly in smaller Tamil Nadu towns as well. According to further reports, a certain theatre in the suburbs of Chennai that began only with two screenings now holds four screenings. That’s the Dangal effect for you.
Not just Tamil Nadu, the film has also managed to collect approx. Rs 2.10 crore form Kerala in 3 days. As we all know, the three big ticket releases – Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol, Dulquer’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Prithviraj’s Ezra were postponed due to the rift between producers and exhibitors. While it’s been a huge loss for the Malayalam industry, Aamir Khan’s Dangal has stood to gain in this situation. The film is creating waves even at the overseas box office. As of Day 5, the movie has managed to collect a whopping Rs 76.16 crore. Aamir Khan sure has struck gold with Dangal. The collections so far has surpassed the lifetime collections of many movies – Dear Zindagi, Baaghi, Fan, Shivaay and a few others.
Dangal is a wrestling film based on Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat. It’s about a father training his daughters to wrestle to win a gold medal he never managed in his time. The film stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as Geeta and Babita and Sakshi Tanwar as Mahavir’s wife.
