Manoj Bajpayee in Aligarh Diljit Dosanjh in Udta Punjab Randeep Hooda in Sarbjit VOTE for the most underrated performance of 2016:
Like every year this year too we had individual performances which went beyond the performance of a film. But most of these performances went unnoticed coz the film flopped at the box office. These performances are from movies that either went unnoticed due to low promotions or then the actors were a part of multi starrers that featured bigger stars and hence were sidelined. Here we’ll see five underrated performances of the year.
# Manoj Bajpayee – Aligarh
This film had Manoj Bajpayee playing the character of a gay professor, Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras, who taught Marathi at Aligarh Muslim University. The film showed how a professor was sacked from the University due to his sexual orientation. Manoj portrayed his role with so much maturity and conviction that for the first time on the big screen a gay character was not the butt of jokes and was more than an object of mockery.
# Randeep Hooda – Sarbjit
If there was one performance which deserved every award possible this year then it is Randeep as Sarabjit. Randeep Hooda was Sarbjit. Period. His performance is sure to leave a lump in your throat. Especially, watch out for the scene when the Darshan Kumar pays him a visit in the prison for the first time.
# Radhika Apte – Parched & Phobia
Radhika Apte owned the screen from the word go in both the films. If Phobia was all about her, in Parched she was in a supporting role. There is more to her than just those infamous nude scenes that were leaked on the web. Watch it for her heartfelt performance.
# Diljit Dosanjh – Udta Punjab
It won’t be wrong to call Diljit Dosanjh, the find of the year. He made his debut in Bollywood with controversial Udta Punjab alongside the already established Hindi film stars like Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan. Shahid Kapoor was all over the promos, along with Alia Bhatt. But it was Diljit Dosanjh, who was the lead protagonist of the film. And Shahid Kapoor had lesser screen time than him. Diljit Dosanjh’s matured performance was overshadowed by Shahid and Alia’s flamboyant one. But he was the life of the film.
# Kirti Kulhari – Pink
Pink was the most hard hitting film of the year. The film taught us something we knew all along and that is no means NO. And it came across effectively mainly because of the performances of its star cast. However the film is mostly remembered for Amitabh Bachchan’s performance or upto an extent Tapsee Pannu’s. But the movie is not just about them and it was a collaborative effort with film’s second lead Kirti Kulhari giving it all for the role of Falak Ali. The woman who is accused and believed of prostitution and assault. Mainly due to her lifestyle. Coz she is in relationship with an older married man. Kirti Kulhari’s nuanced performance was hard hitting to say the least and the scene in the pre climax where she loses her cool, stays with you much after movie ends.Let us know which according to you was the most underrated performance of the year?
